The penultimate round of Mercedez-Benz UCI Mountain Bike World Cup was held in Swiss Alps in Lenzerheide. Lenzerheide is regular host of World Cups from 2015 and hosted last year World Championship. The scenic venue with lake Igl Lai under the mountain. Rainy weather started the track walk day and after, the track was drying out, for todays Finals there were occasional rain showers and low visibility due to fog.
Žak Gomilšček was the only Sinter Brakes Team rider in Lenzerheide, who after stunning performance in Val di Sole the weekend before was aiming to achieve another great result.
After 10th place in Qualifying race with safe and steady run, he was pumped to give it all on Saturdays finals. In a thrilling Junior men’s category race, where was again new race winner and tight racing, Žak finished on solid 9th place and confirmed his good form for upcoming races.
“This weekend was lots of fun. I really enjoyed riding this track even though it really isn’t my type of track because it isn’t very technical and physical. The final run I started calm and right after the start I’ve noticed I had a few pieces of dirt in goggles which took my focus away for a bit… Luckily, I was able to recover back to race pace, but at the bottom I slowed down because I thought I was going fast enough for a good result… Well, I won’t make that mistake again At the end of the day I’ll take 9th place as it’s still good result.
